The Management Unit of the National Parks of Zakynthos, Ainos and Protected Areas of the Ionian Islands and the Kefalonia Ithaca UNESCO Global Geopark celebrated the World Wetlands Day on 2 February 2025, in collaboration with the 1st Argostoli Scout System.
The event was held at the Headquarters of the NECCA Branch at Koutavou Lagoon, an area recognized for its biodiversity and ecological importance.
The young explorers had the opportunity to participate in bird watching using binoculars and telescopes. While first attending a presentation on the birdlife of the area, which included information on the different species that live and migrate through the wetland.
World Wetlands Day was established on 2 February 1971, when the Convention on Wetlands was signed in Ramsar, Iran.
